How does the Solar Dok work?

The Solar Dok takes the power of the sun and converts it into usable energy through the use of photo-voltiac (PV) panels.  The energy created by the PV panels goes through a charge controller device that feeds the power into a battery bank to store the energy.  The energy created from the PV panels is available for use day or night to the consumer by using a battery bank system.  The energy is distributed to the consumer through a few different forms; USB power outlets are available for charging music players and cell phones, and 110VAC standard wall outlets are available to allow consumers to plug in things like laptop computers.

How do the PV panels create power?

Photovoltaics or PV for short can be thought of as a direct current (DC) generator powered by the sun. When light photons of sufficient energy strike a solar cell, they knock electrons free in the silicon crystal structure forcing them through an external circuit (battery, inverter or direct DC load), and then returning them to the other side of the solar cell to start the process all over again. The voltage output from a single crystalline solar cell is about 0.5V with an amperage output that is directly proportional to the cell’s surface area (approximately 7A for a 6 inch square multi-crystalline solar cell).Typically 30-36 cells are wired in series (+ to -) in each solar module. This produces a solar module with a 12V nominal output (~17V at peak power) that can then be wired in series nd/or parallel with other solar modules to form a complete olar array.

What can I plug into the Solar Dok?

The Solar Dok machines have been designed specifically for the charging of electronic devices such as; cell phones, mp3 players, laptop computers, digital cameras, DVD players, and the like.

Can I use the Solar Dok machines when there is no sunlight?

Yes. Because each machine is designed with a robust battery bank system, the Solar Dok will deliver power for a consumer at any time day or night.

Is the table made from recycled plastics?

Yes. The plastic components on the table are made from recycled materials.  The recycled materials are obtained from milk jugs, water bottles, and the like.  It is estimated that approximately 1200 milk jugs go into every Solar Dok :) !

What else on the Solar Dok is made from environmentally friendly materials?

All of the structural compents are made from aluminum. The benifits of aluminum are numerous; non-toxic, corrosion resistant, light weight, and recyclable :)!

Material finishing on the aluminum components are powder coated.  Powder Coating is also highly protective of our environment. While liquid finishes contain solvents which have pollutants known as volatile organic compounds (VOC's), powder coating contains no solvents and release negligible amounts, if any, VOC's into the atmosphere. Therefore, there is no longer a need for finishers to buy and maintain costly pollution control equipment.Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process by utilizing no solvents in the finishing process.

LED Lighting on the Solar Dok is a highly efficient lighting method. The LED lights use between 50 and 80 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb.
